Panel Discussion No.3

Today's panel discussion member is Taiga, Iku, Haruka, Mai, Riho and Chiaki.

Their town is looking out on a serious problem that how to dispose a lot of garbage, not only household garbages but also industrial wastes, and where should they build a waste disposal place. However, they must ask permission for urban residents and suburb residents to build a waste disposal place. From these things, their topic is how to dispose a huge garbages and where should they build a waste disposal place!!!

Taiga is sixty, she is from Russia, runs a jewelry shop,

Iku is forty-two, he is from China, have a big factly.

Haruka is thirty-five, she is from Japan, have a husband and one daughter and one son,

Mai is fifty-five, she is professor of university,

Riho is sixty-eight, she is farmer, like corns very much.

Chiaki is from Canada, she is college student.

Important point of this panel discussion was that what are there any solutions to persuade both urban and suburb residents and what kind of advantages and disadvantages does this project have. Before we think about solution, we should take care of reasons why does our town's garbage increase. Panel member answered a variety of reasons, but I felt all of them is vague answer and I couldn't understand why does our town's garbage increase. So they should prepare a lot of deep ideas, and they should think about background too. When I listen their discussion, I felt each member's opinion have no consitency. I understood each opinoin have no relation. However, it must be false. From these things, each member should make clear their position and opinion.

Finally, I think the most important things in panel discussion is that how the moderator manage the discussion. So if their moderator have a good job, their discussion will be more meaningful discussion!!!

  1. Thank you for this well-written report Mizuho. I completely agree with you, however one point that you didn't comment on is how you failed to act as a concerned townsperson. When you don't understand something or it seems unclear, you must ask questions. In this way only, will the discussion move ahead smoothly.
